Any opinions on my essay? I think anarcho-capitalism will result in a very different society then the advocates of it believe. Ancaps want a society where the means of production are privately owned (capitalism), and individuals are able to exchange goods and services without being coerced (free markets). These ideas do not complement each other. Either the free market will eliminate the accumulation of capital used to expand the private ownership of the means of production, or the people with the most accumulated capital from their control of the means of production will attempt to stop the free exchange of goods or will slowly be marginalized as more and more people are able to lift themselves out of having to pay rents/sell their labor to these capitalists. The free market will eliminate the accumulation of capital by allowing more people to put their goods/services on the market, thereby flattening wealth distribution among most members of society. This will allow them to stop paying rents and working wage-paying jobs and take control over their lives. With access to the total product of their labor (as apposed to having it taken in the form of rents or taxation, and as an employee of someone else), there will be an explosion of wealth among the bottom 90% of the population. This in turn will further accelerate the marginalization of wealthy capitalists. These smaller, local centers of production would easily out-compete the large capitalist businesses, who would require huge amounts of money to defend/protect their different properties from theft, or to enforce the IP. Because of that, and also because transportation would no longer be subsidized to benefit the largest capitalists (as they pay far below the proportional amount for the upkeep of the highways they would depend on to coordinate and protect their landholdings), they would have to charge higher prices for goods/services that a person could buy much more cheaply from a local producer that wouldnt have those costs to keep up. They would lose market share, and would have to sell off their land until the costs of maintaining it were lower then the profits it provided. Society would be built around small-scale local production. Boom. Capitalism gone, free markets everywhere. They would not coexist in a truly free society. And Im not saying that I think ancaps would try to prop-up capitalists or help them restrict the free market, because they hold the NAP above both markets and capitalism (for them both of those spring from the NAP). Im just saying that they dont need to jump through tons of hoops explaining capitalism in a free society when it wont be a part of such a society anyway :)
