April 10th 1970 - Paul McCartney issue a press release with his new album McCartney saying he does not think he would work with the Beatles again. The press take this as an announcement of Pauls resignation from the group. This is what he actually said Q: Are you planning a new album or single with the Beatles? A: No. Q: Is this album a rest away from the Beatles or the start of a solo career? A: Time will tell. Being a solo album means its the start of a solo career... and not being done with the Beatles means its just a rest. So its both. Q: Is your break with the Beatles temporary or permanent, due to personal differences or musical ones? A: Personal differences, business differences, musical differences, but most of all because I have a better time with my family. Temporary or permanent? I dont really know. Q: Do you foresee a time when Lennon-McCartney becomes an active songwriting partnership again? A: No. On the day, many fans and press gather at the Beatles Apple HQ at 3 Savile Row to take in the news. Here is an interview with Apple Press Officer, Derek Taylor, from that day. youtube/watch?v=cQeQeOb2fTA On a lighter note, here is a clip from the Rutles, about Rutle Corps - a great spoof on what really happened.
