Apu-r Pachali - a semi-fictional account of the life of child - TopicsExpress

Apu-r Pachali - a semi-fictional account of the life of child actor Subir Banerjee who played Apu in Satyajit Rays iconic debut film, Pather Pachali. Slow, melodramatic and boring in the extreme, the narrative is completely lacking in any kind of movement at all. The performances are adequate, but constant intercutting between this film and Rays Apu Trilogy, makes the film feel like it is an attempt to capitalize on the average Bengalis emotional attachment to Rays creation. A soppy script is made even more unbearable by the fact that the whole film seems to have only four lines of background score, which is repeated every two and a half minutes. Good camera work by Shirsha Ray, but that is simply not enough to save a film which sinks faster than the Titanic. 2/5. P.S. - Satyajit aar Rabindranath naa thaakle, Bangali je ki beche kheto ke jaane?!
