Are you a member of a hip hop dance crew? Have you got what it takes to stand up against the best dancers in Nigeria? Then grab a form for N5000 and be a part of the IDO Niaja urban street dance festival 2013. Venue: Oceanview, Eko hotel & suites,V.I, Lagos. Date: 14TH November, 2013. Time: 5pm prompt. COMPETITION FORMAT The competition will occur in 3 stages; a. Preliminary stage: Competing crews are to perform a showcase to any hip hop song of their choice. The song should be between 1:50 and 2:00 long. 4 crews will be selected from this round. b. Semi-finals: This is the first battle stage of the competition. The four crews will be grouped in two. They shall be randomly selected to battle each other in this round. The battle will consist of 3 rounds lasting one minute each. The winning crew from each group will advance to the finals. c. Finals: This will also consist of a 3 round battle lasting one minute each. The winner of the competition will be selected from this battle. JUDGING CRITERIA The crews will be judged based on their: a. Technique b. Composition/ formation of choreography c. Image (costume, make up, grooming, energy level) d. Show value REQUREMENTS a. Crews should consist of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 individuals. b. Crews are to arrive at the venue at least an hour before time with a CD containing the music for their showpiece in the preliminary stage. c. All routines should be choreographed to mid tempo hip hop music, consisting of a 6 count or an 8 count. The DJ will play songs randomly in the battle phase. d. Props should not include sharp, inflammable, or other harmful objects, or coffins, and costumes should be decent and not suggestive in nature. e. Songs used for the showcase should not be vulgar or suggestive in any way. RULES a. Fighting will lead to automatic disqualification. b. Dances should not exceed the time allocated to each routine. c. Dancers are forbidden to cross demarcation lines of the opposing crew during their turn of the battle. d. Each crew is to be represented by their best soloist during the third round of each battle phase. THE THIRD ROUND OF EACH BATTLE IS A FREESTYLE CONTEST!!! e. During the battle, it is forbidden for one crew to dance during the turn of the opposing crew. f. The decision of the judges is final.
