Arkansas OCS Hall of Fame Inducts Three New Members ROBINSON MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Ark. – The Arkansas Military Academy at the 233rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute here inducted three new members into its Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame during a ceremony November 1, 2014. Retired Arkansas National Guard officers Brig. Gen. Roger McClellan, Col. Phillip Roser and Col. Anita Deason were all inducted into the OCS Hall of Fame. The officers, representing classes 24, 25 and 28 were celebrated for their career and personal accomplishments. According to Maj. Gen. William Wofford, the adjutant general of the Arkansas National Guard, the OCS Hall of Fame has a two-fold purpose: to recognize the ones who serve and support the Arkansas Army National Guard, and to give some incentive to the officer candidates currently participating in the program. Each of the inductees was honored individually in front of a crowd of current members of the Guard, former leadership, retired colleagues, Family and friends. Their biographies were read aloud and then they were called to the stage one by one to formally receive their awards. The inductees were each awarded the Arkansas Exceptional Service Medal, an OCS Hall of Fame medallion and an individual Hall of Fame plaque. In addition, each inductee’s name, year of induction and rank will be engraved onto an individual brick, which will be placed in front of the Arkansas National Guard Museum in North Little Rock, symbolizing stepping stones for future leaders to follow. Wofford congratulated the new inductees on their recognition, and thanked them for their contribution of a combined total of over 110 years of service to the people and state of Arkansas. He pointed out that these officers held key positions of leadership for the Guard. Brig. Gen McClellan was the former commander of the Arkansas Army National Guard; Col. Phil Roser formerly served as the Guard’s property and fiscal officer; and Col. Deason was the Guard’s senior human resources officer. The Arkansas Military Academy was founded in 1957 by a group of Arkansas National Guard officers who volunteered their own time to establish and teach selected Guardsmen the knowledge and characteristics necessary to succeed as a military officer. The Academy is currently conducting its 58th class of the yearlong program. Hall of Fame candidates must be graduates of the Officer Candidate School and meet a series of criteria to qualify for consideration. Honorees are selected by a panel of previous Hall of Fame inductees. Criteria for selection as a candidate are: • Any member who is awarded the Medal of Honor • Members who have attained the rank of colonel • Members who have been elected to public office in any state or federal government capacity • Those who have achieved state or national recognition for exceptional service • Members which attained an exceptional wartime service record With this group of inductees the Arkansas Military Academy’s Hall of Fame will total 72 inductees.
