As a kid growing up in Fremont I was a San Francisco Giants fan - TopicsExpress

As a kid growing up in Fremont I was a San Francisco Giants fan but after years of watching them come up short and trading away my favorite players----Felipe Alou, Orlando Cepeda, Willie McCovey, and even Willie Mays----I turned my attention to the Oakland A’s……While the A’s had their moments of glory in the early 70’s and late 80’s it has been the Giants providing the thrills the last five years with two World Series titles and an excellent shot at a third starting tonight in Kansas City but I find myself rooting against them and this is why…….When the Giants were on the verge of being sold and moved to Tampa Bay a last minute effort to keep the team in San Francisco was fueled in part by a concession from the A’s that San Jose be considered “Giants territory”----it made the deal more attractive for the new investors…….Now----20+ years later the Giants have arguably the best ballpark in the majors----constant sell outs--and a level of success on the field second to none……The A’s on the other hand continue to be a “small market” franchise playing in the worst ballpark in the majors desperately hoping to build a new stadium in the San Jose area…..What the A’s need is the Giants ok to build there and the Giants won’t give it----as my kids would say “that’s not right”………When the Giants needed help the A’s under the ownership of the Haas family gave it-----the Giants need to return the favor and do the right thing.
