As anyone who knows me knows, I go through phases with different media. One month Im playing video games, another month Im reading books, and another Im marathoning movies (which is kind of all the time). Right now Im back into comic books, so I thought Id share a few Im reading and like so far right now... - The Walking Dead (Image) by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard I just got caught up with the series after a year-long break, through issue #129. I love the art, the black and white works so perfectly with the grim, hopeless nature of the series. Its a very human tale, and I find it compelling! - Outcast (Image) by Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta A new series, two issues in, by Kirkman. Just gave it a shot yesterday and am hooked! It deals with an outcast (har har) who has a strange relationship with what seems like a demon who has possessed and troubled his family for years. Its quite interesting and well written. - East of West (Image) by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta Another new title to me from Image comics (the company that is quickly becoming my favorite). Im three issues in and have learned its a sci-fi, steampunk-Western story about the four horsemen of the apocalypse trying to set off... the apocalypse...so...yeah. The new presidents name is also Antonia Levay, hahaha... obviously after the well-known Satanist leader. Its awesome so far! - Giant-Sized X-Men (1975, Marvel) by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum The one-shot that lead to the famous Claremont era of Uncanny X-Men! It introduces Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, Sunfire, and Thunderbolt to the X-Men...it also brings back Banshee and brings him in as an addition to the team. This is a good starting point if you wanted to start the original series, and dont want to go all the way back to issue #1! - Astonishing X-Men (v3) (Marvel) by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday I have not hidden my disinterest in Joss Whedon. I think his movies are okay to bad, and I havent been able to finish his TV work. But so far Ive been entertained by this variation of the X-Men. Ive only read a couple of issues, so this is a hesitant mention, but I do like it so far (this could stem for my general love for X-Men). It plays out like a blockbuster action movie, mostly. But reading it and interpreting the writing in my head helps it not be annoying. NEXT ON MY LIST: Kick-Ass 3; Lazarus; Low; Maus; Nowhere Men; Starlight; Thief of Thieves; All-Star Superman; X-Men God Loves, Man Kills; Ultimate Avengers 1 & 2.
