Assalaamualaikum . .................................................... THIS IS MY WAY... Say (O Muhammad): This is my way; I invite unto Allah with sure knowledge; I and whosoever follows me. And Glorified and Exalted be Allah. And I am not of the Mushrikun (Quran 12:108) The above verse is from Soorah Yousuf. Allah subhaanahu wataaalaa, Glorified and Exalted be He, narrates the life story of Yousuf alaihissalaam in this Soorah. Towards the end of this Soorah, Allah commands Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wassallam to say, ...قل هذه سبيلي - This is my way.... There a many lessons to derive from the above aayah. However, I shall limit to just one lesson for now. This is my way is the way of Prophet Muhammad. Allah narrates the life story of Yousuf alaihussalaam, his struggle, convictions, sagacious decisions and a mammoth heart inclined to forgiving those who committed excess on him. Allahs Messenger sallallaahu alaihi wasallam was commanded to say that his way was also similar to the way of Prophet Yousuf in struggle to remain steadfast and in forgiving the people magnanimously. Prophet Yousuf alaihussalaam forgave his brothers who planned to kill him and banish him. He forgave those who separated him from his father Yaaqoob alaissalaam for years together. He forgave the ones who caused him to suffer melancholy that surrounded him. Now this is the way that was adopted by our last Prophet, Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wassallam. He too forgave the people of Makkah when he had the strength to punish them for their atrocities done against his family and his friends. He forgave the ones who boycotted him and the believers, even though his beloved wife Khadijah radiyallaahu anhaa died in the period of boycott. He forgave the ones who killed his uncle Hamzah radiyallaahu anhu. He forgave those who killed and banished the believers. This is the way of our Prophet. This is the way of the Prophet, and the way of those who follow him. We as Muslims must forgive people around us. We shall forgive our family members, relatives, friends and others, even if they have committed excess on us. This is the way. It is no greatness to forgive the ones who are stronger than you. It is the greatness of the character to forgive the ones who are weaker than you. I too love to become strong and then forgive, rather than to remain weak and forgive people. Lets start to forgive people. Lets only work to spread mercy to the people around us. However, we are hard on the infidels who are after the blood of the believers. We are stern against the kuffaar, and merciful to the Muminoon. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and falling down prostrate (in prayer), seeking Bounty from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. The mark of them (i.e. of their Faith) is on their faces (foreheads) from the traces of (their) prostration (during prayers). This is their description in the Taurat (Torah). But their description in the Injeel (Gospel) is like a (sown) seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong, it then becomes thick, and it stands straight on its stem, delighting the sowers that He may enrage the disbelievers with them. Allah has promised those among them who believe (i.e. all those who follow Islamic Monotheism, the religion of Prophet Muhammad SAW till the Day of Resurrection) and do righteous good deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward (i.e. Paradise). (Quran 48:29) May Allah make us like the believers described in the above aayah. Baarakallaahu feekum yaa ayyuhal ikhwaan. :)
