At a time when the Iowa City area has a need for more affordable housing options, and the city cant find ways to come up with the limited money it would take to help the area homeless find a place to store their belongings, the City Council is set to give Moen another $13+ MILLION DOLLARS for another high rise in the downtown area. Shouldnt the people of Iowa City have their tax dollars go toward projects that help those less fortunate in their community rather than helping wealthy developers cater to other potential wealthy residents? As weve seen recently with Moen projects, he and others have had to come back and ask for additional money and threaten to pull up stakes if the city does not give it to them. So, the 13+ million dollars the City Council is giving to Moen may only be the first payment toward another project that serves only Moen and other wealthy people. A 20-story luxury hotel and luxury condos with a bowling alley...Sounds fabulous. Anyone remember Plamour Lanes? Obviously bowling isnt a money-maker in Iowa City. Maybe you get to dry your balls with $100 bills.
