At midnight-thirty-ish mass included a simple, eloquent message - TopicsExpress

At midnight-thirty-ish mass included a simple, eloquent message that started with the Father asking, and offering an answer to, What does Jesus save you from? I mean, you call him Savior; but, what does he save you from? These hours later, it resonates with me still. After mass, I thanked him for receiving me as a guest in his parish (had to go to the Kansas side). I told him I was appreciative of his simple message as he shook my hand (it was a solid handshake, btw, SOLID). Then, I inquired as to whether hed written it down, as Id like to share it. Believe me, something would definitely be lost in a by rote retelling. He looked me square in the eye, smiled and said, No, I dont prepare beforehand, so I dont have a copy. Really?, I replied. Trying not to let my doubt show. We all know I am a terrible skeptic. He smiled wider, his face revealed no tells of untruth. His eyes shone with, I kid you not, a twinkle and, perhaps, a flash of orneryness...and, he said with a conviction clearly not hesitant , I prefer not to get in the bosss way. Oh, how I wish that was how my faith would mature. I wish I could get out of His way. What does Jesus do for me every day? What does he save me from? Myself. My sin. And, he does so not because I am so freaking awesome. He does it because he has the grace abundant that allows for loving the imperfect, the flawed, the human in us all. There is no gift I can bring that is fit for the newborn babe, the King. Best Christmas present ever. And, the only one that really matters.
