At our last meeting, along with a really interesting discussion, we got to try out some of the workshop activities which Sarah, from The Great Men Project, does with the 12-18 year old boys she has run workshops with on gender and expectations of masculinity. At the end of the meeting we all filled out post-its with ideas of things we can do to challenge harmful gendered behaviours Im our own lives, which is something the boys do at the end of the workshops. Heres a selection of the responses you guys gave (I was going to do something arty with them, but Im not feeling super creative - there are colours at least.) Some of my favourites include trying to make your feminism more abrasive; refusing to use gendered pronouns unless youre sure theyre appropriate; and quite a number of people who want to talk to younger brothers or male friends about gender in a more engaging and challenging way. This is the similar project in the U.S. which Sarah mentioned: acalltomen.org/news/ted-talk-tony-porter This is the website for the Great Men Project - if you werent at the talk you should definitely check it out - and if you want to donate to the project text GNDR14 followed by £[the amount you want to donate] to 70070.
