*******Attention********** If you are currently involved in Christian RAP or HIP-HOP music please take the time to read what this brother in Christ shared today.... The brother who wrote this is Al Gibson. ----------------------------------------------------------------- I just saw this post on Facebook about “Christian Rap”. As a former rapper, this particular post hit home for me because I used to produce and perform rap music for the king of this world. After reading this, I believe those of you “Christian Rappers” who truly wish to walk with Jesus Christ will truly understand why I say the term itself is an oxymoron. This is why Im going to speak directly to them: Rap is of this world. Its origins & influences are of this world and a creation of the flesh and thats what makes it unholy. I dont know if you know the history of rap/hip-hop but rap was created by so-called street rebels and “conscious black youth” as a result of depression and anger against this worlds “establishment” in the spirit of rebellion and malice. Romans 12:19 states: Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” and... Ephesians 4:31-32 states: Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christs sake hath forgiven you. So if rap music was a product of rebellion and malice, God says its a sin. Period. Rap music has so many demonic entities attached to it, its ridiculous! I understand the conflict you are going through as a “Christian Rapper”. I went through the same conflict. More than likely, you were a hip-hop artist before you decided to give yourself to Christ. Heres where you lost your way. Alot of people think it stops with that decision. It doesnt. In fact, the war hasnt even began yet! You havent even started fighting yet! Some will tell you that all you have to do is be baptized and accept Jesus Christ as your savior and thats it. Being saved and strong in spirit takes spiritual growth in order to give a 100% commitment to Jesus Christ. There is no half-stepping and this is a process. Yes, a PROCESS. This is the part that most “Christians” dont realize. Your flesh, sin, and the enemy are going to be fighting hard against your spirit. Your mind is going to be a constant war. The temptation to sin is going to amplify by 1000. Things you never were tempted to do, you will be now! The rules and laws you followed as a worldly man NO LONGER APPLY! This means that in order to enter The Kingdom, you have to follow the instructions given to us by Jesus Christ, by Jesus himself or through his true apostles, and, very important, the Holy Spirit. I, myself, am still a neophyte, or a new saint still growing, but COMMITTED to Jesus Christ. COMMITTED being the keyword. Let me direct you to Ephesians 5:11 - And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather REPROVE (expose) them and also... 1 John 2:15-17 - Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. Our principal mission is to go out and witness. As stated in Mark 16:15-16: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be condemned. We do not turn to the ways and characteristics of the world in order to bring people to Christ. Ever. God does not compromise, and you are breaking the law by asking him for one. If you are saved you love Jesus and you never question his will or law. You dont even think to. Thats what the flesh does. It tries to substitute worldly logic for spiritual guidance. If you are doing this, I would not only question the authenticity of the source that is guiding you, but I would also fall to my knees immediately and pray to God to guide me and get deep into the word! As stated in Romans 12:2 (this is the English Standard translation): Dont copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by the way you think. Then you will learn to know Gods will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. God Bless You All and hopefully Gods Word will shine a light in your life. Please continue to pray for me.
