August 17 Mt Rainier We realized since it was Saturday, the traffic was going to be heavy but we were here so…Actually, it wasn’t as bad as we imagined. The road into the Mt. Rainier National Park was long since there were a number of other parts of the park we could have stopped but felt pressed for time. Once we got to the Paradise Information Center, parking was the issue. Signs suggested the upper lot (there were 2 different areas for parking down the mountain) was full but we cruised up there anyway. A young lady directing traffic suggested that there would be no parking for a rig our size. There was parking for buses. We took a spot there. The map showed us a steep, 500’ increase in height, ½ mile path to view the mountain top. There were all sorts of wild flowers along the way, a fast running waterfall at the top and a cloudy Mt. Rainier. I started with my coat on and by the time we got ½ way up, it was off as I was warmed up. The walk down sure was a lot easier. Lunch was at the lodge built in 1917. The timbers inside were amazingly huge. On the way back to the RV, Mt. Rainier cleared for us. What a view with half of its 27 glaciers showing! The road out of the park and thru several national forests followed a busy river with lots of rapids. We finally were back on a freeway when we stopped at Yakima.
