August 2013 Counselor Connection Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed a relaxing and prosperous summer vacation. It has been wonderful to see all of your smiling faces returning to school. The beginning of the year is an exciting time…reconnecting with old friends and being introduced to new ones, settling into a new schedule and simply getting back into a routine. It will also be a very busy time for us. Juniors, we need to be looking forward and preparing for the PSAT in October. Be mindful that this is an important academic year for you. Let your college goals direct your focus this year…SUCCESS!! Seniors, we will have our meeting next Wednesday. We will discuss a timeline for applying to college, the application process, transcript requests and scholarships. I am very impressed to hear many of you used your time this summer to work on essays, visit colleges, volunteer, travel abroad, and become involved in many other enriching activities. Continue to work diligently, as you have the past three years. Class of 2014, your future is in your hands. God Bless Mrs. Hillin I am so happy to be back at school this year to welcome our new students and welcome back our returning students! Fortunately, I will be here full-time this year to assist the students, staff, and parents of Kelly High School. As we are all getting settled into our new schedules, I plan to hold the individual counselor visits with the freshman to ensure each of them are feeling welcomed and answer any questions they may have. This is our time to review goals and make sure each student has the resources they need to have a successful school year. I look forward to helping our students discover ways to be involved on campus and develop new skills on their high school journey. As a school counselor, I work not only with scheduling and testing, but also to help enrich our school community through a variety of academic and social services. Next month we will implement a new school-wide guidance program through our Peer Counseling program and I will be excited to share these plans with you in next month’s newsletter. We are also planning a parent night and would love to hear from you about topics you are most concerned about with your teens. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments to share.
