KANAWHA PROSECUTOR OPTS NOT TO APPEAL REMOVAL Kanawha County Prosecutor Mark Plants has decided not to appeal the recent three-judge panel’s decision to remove him from office. Charleston, WV – November 3, 2014 – Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Plants announced today that he does not intend to appeal a three-judge panel’s ruling that will effectively remove him from office on November 13, 2014. “My family and I have been attacked for almost a year. I love being a prosecutor, but refuse to allow my family to be subjected to this any longer, said Prosecuting Attorney Mark Plants. “I’m excited to begin the next chapter in my life. I’ll be opening my own law practice where I can fight for the rights of others who have been treated unjustly.” “I am extremely proud of my office’s accomplishments during my tenure, we have indicted and convicted more criminals than any other prosecutor’s office in West Virginia history,” said Plants. “The Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has a great group of employees and they deserve all the credit, we have provided a level of service to crime victims that was previously unmatched,” he added. Below are some highlights of accomplishments of the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office since Mark Plants took office in January of 2009: Has indicted and convicted more criminals over a six year period than any other prosecutor in the history of WV. There has been a 75% decrease in the number of homicides. Saved tax-payers over two-million dollars on the county jail bill, including $575,000 last year. Obtained the conviction of Shawn Lester in relation to the 2003 Sniper Case. Created the Kanawha County Victim Services Center, to better serve victims of crime in Kanawha County, the first of its kind in West Virginia. Instituted a case management system which created attorney accountability to crime victims. Instituted a “Justice Without Delay” policy, expediting the presentment of cases to the Grand Jury.
