BSA GRAD CREATES HISTORY IN SA’S GREATEST RACE Heavy Metal - TopicsExpress

BSA GRAD CREATES HISTORY IN SA’S GREATEST RACE Heavy Metal continued the great record that Bloodstock South Africa graduates have enjoyed in the Vodacom Durban July, when he scored an impressive victory in South Africa’s greatest horse-race. Not only did Heavy Metal (Silvano – Percussion) become the fourth BSA buy in a row to win the July, the talented and gutsy gelding took his place in history, when jockey S’Manga Khumalo became the first black jockey to win the Vodacom Durban July. Khumalo, who has now won three of SA’s top races this season, was jubilant after his success on the Sean Tarry trained runner, who has now won six races including this season’s Gr1 President’s Champion Challenge. Congratulations to owner Chris Van Niekerk, and to breeder Bosworth Farm, for producing a truly magnificent athlete. A R250 000 purchase at the 2010 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, Heavy Metal has now won R3 744 280 in prize money. The son of champion sire elect Silvano looks to be a strong contender for Equus Award glory. Well done to all the connections of this wonderful racehorse.
