Originally Chinook was the name of an Oregon First Nations; in Canada the name of a species of salmon Donkey Engine – Steam – powered winch, often mounted on sleds for yarding (pulling logs to a landing) Bongo Brush – Forest-workers talk for the thick vegetation that takes over plantation. Caulks – Pronounced “corks” high lacing logging boots with studded soles for traction on wet logs Alberni Toothpick – a big log; old-timer logger talk. And finally The Goat Ranch – a rather popular Old - time brothel from back in the day - right here in the Valley
