Baton Rouge Business Report publisher Rolfe McCollister doesnt think we need federal food inspectors, the National Institutes of Health, National Park rangers, civilian intelligence, and civilian military personnel. And the White House lawn should never be mowed again. That sentiment is implicit in his most recent column. Let them retire or find a new job, or give them a grant to go back to school and learn a new trade, he writes of the federal workers recently furloughed by the GOP-Tea Party shutdown. I am sure it would be cheaper than having them on the government dole with generous benefits. It is not the responsibility of taxpayers or government to employ people. In McCollisters world, everyone who was sidelined in the government shutdown should be fired, because everything worked just fine without them.
