Been off the FB grid this week, but digging all of these Im so Brooklyn posts. Wanted to chime in before going back into my writing cave.... Figured Id lists a potpourri of BKLYN flashbacks...as I reminisce over a few... Im so Brooklyn, I remember Campus Quarters on Hillel Place, and loosing all of my quarters within the first 30 seconds of Dungeons and Dragons (used to piss me off). Im so Brooklyn, and Brooklyn is oh so fly that the Cosby Show was filmed in my neighborhood...my friends and I would go often. How crazy cool you were Malcolm-Jamal Warner , right Sonia and Adama Delphine? Im so Brooklyn, as Clyde Cole always says, I was the original Facebook before Facebook was even a thought (Ha). Im so Brooklyn I remember the fad of Hawaiian shorts ( oh my) and name buckles at the Glenwood Road fleamarket (of course my name was too long, so I had to opt for the moniker Sparkle. Im so Brooklyn, I remember the Kenmore theater on Church Ave. In the 8th grade I was there for six hours watching Scarface, and then sneaking in to see Terms of Endearment, with Anthony Stoute and I think Monique Shaw (we needed a sentimental flick after Scarface). Im so Brooklyn, I remember Macys on Tilden, Blimpies on Flatbush and Hillel Place after a football game at Midwood Field, and Midwood Field parties. Im so Brooklyn, I remember when Kings Plaza had a movie theater...and a carousel, the $5 movie theater on Avenue J (where I would see both the Breakfast Club and the Last Dragon), Bob Lee from WBLS at every neighborhood function, and block parties...oh the block parties. Block parties that would begin with the super sonic bass of Big Beat and the call and response of Johnny Osbournes Buddy Bye...bombastic beats echoing throughout the neighborhood, inviting all to partake in the ultimate supreme summer madness Yep...Im so Brooklyn...thats how I flow...
