Behram Yezad Roj =============== Mithra : Pherozi – Andukhtar Vehram Yezad = Fateh melavnar hamune banave ! Vehram Yezad Sahib, bring us victory & uphold our Zoroastrian faith forever. In Avesta we invoke as ‘Verethragram Ahuradatem’ (Vehram Yezad). In Behram Yasht ‘Kardo’ 16, recite as follows: ‘Amemuch verethreganemuch aafrinami, THRE Patar, THRE Nipatar…. up to THRE Framarezen’. And not as ‘Dva’ as written in all the Avesta books. In Avesta Dva means TWO and Thre means THREE times. The correct usage is ‘THRE’. This way your ‘stoat’ will be very much effective in order to eradicate fear and diseases. ‘Kardo 16 and ‘Kardo 17 are very much effective to root out evil effects and diseases. Those who want to excel in career, should also pray Haptan Yesht which is also consisting the part of Nirang of Behram Yezad Sahib. Also, ‘Kardo’ 17 is helping a devotee to ward off any evil matter. If a devotee is facing a severe problem, then, must pray three times (Avesta Thre), Behram Yasht in a day. When I mean a devotee, he/she must wear Sudra, Kushti & head gear for round the clock. Further, in Kardo 17 – We come across by name “VAYAMBUR DAEVA” who is the opponent of Behram Yezad Sahib, in fact we have to ward off this Daevas by keeping ourselves clean & hygienic (Ashoi Palnar - Practising Ashoi) as ordained in Vandidad & Gathas. But alas ! Are we practising “hygiene” = “Observation of period”, practising “Tarikats” (wearing Sudreh, Kushti, Avesta Manthravani, etc). nope, 98% Zoroastrians are least bothered to follow “hygiene” which later on, will cause them health problems. Here Hygiene is referred to SPIRITUAL CLEANSING of ones self. This can be only be achieved by practising the Tarikaats as ordained. It was brought to our notice, that people have stooped so low, ignoring hygiene completely, i.e., do no wash hands, do not perform Kushti rituals & straight-away pay visit to holy places like Iranshah Atash Behram, Agyaris, etc. without fear of their fate. This type of unhygienic & irreligious attitude is reflected too, in our Navjot & marriage ceremonies. Those who do not observe this type of hygiene, are directly praising, the above mentioned “Vayambur daeva”, who always stand oppose to Behram Yezad Sahib. According to the Ustavad Gatha : Ha 46-1 (zôt,)kâm nemôi zãm kuthrâ nemôi ayenî pairî hvaêtêush airyamanascâ dadaitî nôit mâ xshnâush ýâ verezênâ hêcâ naêdâ dah’yêush ýôi sâstârô dregvañtô kathâ thwâ mazdâ xshnaoshâi ahurâ. Meaning : Those souls (Ruvaan), ignored completely, the path shown by Asho Zarathustra or abandoned His path of righteousness wilfully or otherwise, repent, as the Ruvaan, now enters in to the dark world (indefinable) to suffer, for the sins committed thereupon. Note: The real day is Tuesday to invoke Behram Yezad Sahib and NOT Friday as many Zoroastrians believe it. Lit only one OIL Lamp in Agyaries/Atash-Behrams. Do not lit in a bowl which consists of 5 to 6 lamps (divo). This is absolutely wrong practice developed by some people. It is against the monotheism. Many people are murmuring while praying, you must hear your Stoat / Vibration clearly in order to get the soothing and vibrant effect. The Stoat color is BLUE for Behram Yesht. Journey of Faith : The Sasanian empire came to a formal end with the murder of Yazdegird III at Merv 651 C.E. A group of devout Zoroastrians from Kohistan in the north-east of Iran found the ever increasing religious persecution growing too much to bear and resolved to seek freedom of worship to India. They traveled south, to the port of Hormuz on the Persian Gulf, also known as Moghistan means place of the magi, i.e. the Zoroastrian priests who perform miracles. Then, eventually secured a ship and sailed eastward, men, women and children. Their first halt was at the port of Diu in Gujarat, where they stayed for 19 years. From there, they sailed again towards the southern part of Gujarat, but met with a dreadful hurricane in the middle of the sea. The faithful devotees of Ahura Mazda stood up and prayed to Mazda to deliver them from this mishap. If they reached unhurt upon the shores of Gujarat, they vowed that they would consecrate a sacred fire in honor of Behram Yazad Sahib, the Victorious Yazad, Who helps and protects the devout in perilous journeys. Their sincere prayers were speedily answered and the violent storm subsided. The founding fathers of the Parsee community reached the shores of southern Gujarat in 936 C. E. In accordance with the dictates of the religion, they consecrated the sacred fire called the Iran Shah and since then, we Parsee invoke our holiest of holy fire called Iran Shah. This was abridged with the little changes made from the Brief History of Parsi Priesthood, written by Dasturji Dr. Firoze M. Kotwal – Courtesy Jame Jamshed Press. I share some of my experiences with my Zoroastrian brethren : My late mother was very staunch believer in Behram Yazad Sahib. In 1968, I was giving my S. S. C. exam(11 Standard) and on Behram Roj, it was Mathematics paper and after completion of my paper, I returned home. We both were sitting at the table and roughly calculating the marks of Mathematics paper. Suddenly the overhead tube-light which was fitted with brackets to the ceiling wall, collapsed on the ground with a loud thud. The tube-light was torn in to shreds and spread all over the hall, but by His Grace of Ahura Mazda, we were unhurt completely. Thus we were saved unhurt on the day of Behram Roj. Another instance is where I had met with a fatal car accident. It was early in the morning, I came out of Banaji Atash Behram and saw that within seconds, rain started pouring heavily, I came out of the gate and observed that there was no traffic plying on the road, then, I took my right turn but to my great horror & was flabbergasted for few seconds : Out of the blue a tempo (goods carrier), came rushing towards on my left side of the car (as if some one had hired that driver to kill me) and dashing my car with a great impact causing my car to fly in the air to certain height and damaging my left arm so severely, as my both arms were on the steering wheel. Then, I managed to drive my car single handedly, bearing with a severe pain on my left arm. Thanks to Ahura Mazda that my life was saved & thanks to Him that my wife was not with me on that day. I was shocked & relived too. I was invoking Behram Yezad Sahib in my mind, on the way to Mumbai from Pune. I crossed Khandala Ghats safely, I reached Mumbai but before few Km away from my destination, break oil suddenly drained to empty, oil indicator flashed & my car break failed completely. I managed to drive my car safely with my family to our destination. Next day my mechanic found a small hole in a hydraulic tube which had caused the oil leakage. Had that incident occurred on the Mumbai - Pune Express Way or zooming down from the Khandala Ghats, then imagine ! what would be our fate ? So, Vehram Yezad Sahib had averted this yet another severe accident. There have been several instances in the past and He has always taken care of us and will continue to lend us His helping Hand. I would like to draw your attention that stick to your great Zoroastrian religion, have blind faith in your great Din, do not leave your religion to seek blessings from non-Zoroastrian deities, in order to gain your selfish motto. If you leave your religion, you will gain nothing but Alas ! Losing your Zoroastrian ‘Jhirum’. A pious Ervad sahib, narrated his story which is as follows. During the night time, he & his wife would pray Sarosh Yesht Vadi & Behram Yesht, before going to bed, one night dacoits gained entry into their house armed with big knives, making commotion in the bedroom, they woke up & started invoking Behram Yezad Sahib in their minds, these dacoits got helpless & baffled in their minds & used to circle around their bed and became night-blinded too, as if seen nothing around the room & after few minutes, left the house, unharming the Ervad sahib & his wife. This is the strength of our Manthravani & the faith in the Mazdayasni Zarthoshti Din. My late mother used to visit Banaji Atash Behram on every Behram Roj. She was able to complete praying with Behram Yesht in just 15 minutes with perfect rhythm of Stoat. She was fully devoted to Behram Yezad Sahib and left for her heavenly abode, on the day of Behram Roj & Mah Farvardin in 2003. My belief is that have devotion to one Yezad Sahib & see the results your self. My late father was a staunch devotee of Asho Spitam Zarathustra Sahib and always used to sing the Monajats in praise of Asho Spitam Zarathustra & Dadar Ahuramazda. Caution ! Behram Roj is to be observed as spiritual day for prayers and not to be meant for tying a Nuptial Knot on this day. “Yaozdaao mashyaai aipi zaathem vahishtaa” = Dedication to purity is best for man all through life (Gatha Yasna 48:5).
