Believers are called to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Anyone who seriously reads scripture knows that both the Apostles Peter and Paul shunned this type of veneration. See Acts 14. Perhaps if "believers" refocused on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith and really followed his example, this would not be such a "news flash."
