Below is a response from another post that I participated on in healthcare from a Canadian resident. You will see his frustration with the system but I will point out that he says, "BC has the longest life expectancy rate in North America and the highest survivor rates for cancer." Those are things I would suffer a little frustration for. yes and no. it is a one size fits all...except you can have certain things done private, like sports athletes, injuries or surgery, workmans comp, etc...but not great. after so many years, people forget how to look after normal stuff our moms knew and show up at emergency rooms with stupid things..over the years, emergency departments have evolved into two sections, standard emergency with the usual stuff and a triage and more of a public clinic section..if not true emergency, then funneled there..also, worldwide shortage of doctors, so to get family doctor hard so people show up at emergency..problem is all hospital employees are government employees with unions, etc...but do not forget, a large percentage of your insurance premium is for malpractice insurance. In Canada, we do not have jury awards. Max for pain and suffering now about 327K. We have the option of going to usa and pay, or overseas..new industry is medical tourism. The system only as good as your doctor, anyways. But BC has longest life expectancy in north america and highest cancer survival rates..but the person to ask would be my brother Norm Letnick he is in government and also working on a PHd in health economics..
