Bishop Onah abolishes Transfer Certificate in Nsukka Catholic schools By Charles Ezema and Chika Ugwuanyi NSUKKA: The Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Godfrey Onah has abolished the issuance of transfer certificate to students in their final classes, especially those in SS3. The Catholic Bishop said that students who seek to change schools in search of examination miracle centers do so because they were not allowed to cheat in Catholic schools. Bishop Onah who stated this at the Holy Mass celebrated to mark the inauguration of 2014/2015 academic year in the Diocese, said that such an act negated the motive for which Catholic schools were established which was - to train students not just in academics but in character. In his vote of thanks, Fr. Kenneth Ugwu remarked that in the past, Catholic schools in Enugu State usually assembled in Enugu Diocese to observe the inaugural Holy Mass but today, with the initiative of Bishop Onah, the Mass is celebrated simultaneously across the three Dioceses in Enugu State: Awgu, Nsukka and Enugu. He commended the Bishop for initiating the idea and assured him that they are doing their best to impart positively on the students entrusted in their care. While commending the Bishop and the attendees, the principal of St. Catherine Secondary School, Nsukka, Rev. Sister Polycarp charged parents and staff of Catholic Nursery and Primary Schools to step up in their responsibilities as the character of some of the students they send to them at the secondary school level is not encouraging. The acting Principal of St. Johns College, Ihe-Owerre, Mrs. Ukamaka Ekwom expressed her delight and commended the Bishop and the Diocesan Director of Education for their good works. For the students, the event was a feast of intellectual meals as some of them like Kingsley Nneke and Emmanuela Nwachukwu of St. Theresa College, Obollo Eke and Holy Trinity Secondary School, Iheaka respectively, said they learnt a lot from the Bishops homily, especially, that it was better to study hard for exams than to switch schools in search of academic miracle centers
