Bishop investigation ‘progressing well’ Thu 15 Aug Police said yesterday the investigation into alleged corruption by cabinet minister Teina Bishop is continuing, but few details have been disclosed. “This investigation is progressing well,” said Police Commissioner Maara Tetava. “There is nothing further to report at this time.” Police have said they cannot provide additional details, such as the lead investigators involved, while the investigation is ongoing. In late July, Tetava confirmed a member of parliament was the subject of a police investigation into alleged bribery and corruption. Bishop has since been identified as the focus of that investigation, and as a result has handed in the marine resources and pearl authority responsibilities of his ministerial portfolio, which have now been taken over by Prime Minister Henry Puna. Meanwhile, Bishop said he is still in the dark about the investigation, apart from reading about it in the media. The education and tourism minister added he would not be commenting further on the investigation, and directed questions to his lawyer, Tony Manarangi. Yesterday, Manarangi said he also has not received any correspondence from law enforcement authorities. “I have heard nothing from the police, nothing from an official source. I don’t even know if there is an investigation,” he said. cinews.co.ck
