Brian Meehan and his racing team are sad to report the death of one of the five horses involved in the serious accident on the M11 on Thursday afternoon. Through an update on his webpage he informed that Pistolero, the Paint pony used to help certain horses in the preliminaries before racing and accompany them on the way to the start, passed away on Thursday evening at the Newmarket Equine Hospital. Of the four horses on the damaged horse box, two of those due to race on Thursday remain at the hospital. One has serious injuries and will remain at the hospital for a period of time; the other, thankfully, is being monitored with only minor problems and is expected home next week. The third intended runner will return home with the stable’s Friday runners from Newmarket this evening, whilst the horse who was returning to his owner’s home for a break has been allowed to continue his journey. Brian said: ”It is a very sad day for us. It was an horrific incident on the motorway and we would like to send our sincerest condolences to the families of the people who lost their lives. They are foremost in our thoughts. huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/05/15/horse-box-crash-on-m11-leaves-two-dead_n_5333121.html
