Browns Hills/Knightsville (most of the area lying between N. 2nd St. and the Scandinavian Cemetery, plus the 4 houses jut north of the YMCA on the west side of N. 2d St.) Browns Hills/Knightsville is the largest historic district. It was settled in the 1850s & 1860s by Horace Brown. Major Elias Cosper who subdivided his land with the aid of B. A. Knight establishing Knightsville in 1889. The district includes a variety of architectural styles with everything from Victorian-era farm-houses to bungalows to several large homes designed by local architect Jesse Barloga including the one built for himself.
