Last evening in Northeast Portland Oregon the PAC (Political Action Committee) for Dojies Law met to kick off our campaign to introduce a bill in Oregon that would mandate that all law enforcement and animal control officers receive adequate and standardized training on how to read and interpret canine body language and also how to handle dogs in a non-lethal manner. The bill when it becomes law will also mandate the creation of an oversight committee at the state level formed of public citizens, animal control and government level persons that will review and make recommendations for legal action regarding incidents involving animals and law enforcement/animal control when an animal has been harmed or killed. This is truly a blessing to me, being a part of this, because I have been wanting to make something like this happen since 2011 when a homeless mans pit bull was shot and killed unnecessarily by a local police officer. Not ever having done this before and not knowing what to do all I could do was to write people asking for help but now The Universe has seen fit for me to have connected with the wonderful people who are going to make it happen. Although the circumstances under which this is coming to fruition are tragic as they resulted in the loss of a dogs eye through excessive force by an animal control officer our PAC intends to do this in the victims name. Therefore this bill that we will see is made law will be known as Dojies Law. We are going to do this! We will soon be asking for donations and support from the public so please stay tuned if you are interested in helping Dojies Law become a reality. BUT we dont intend to stop on the state level and hope to get enough support around the country to get this done an a federal level. The training tools already exist that were made by law enforcement for law enforcement but those tools wont be used unless we mandate that they must be used. The lives of our family pets depend on us to make laws that will protect them from harm while helping law enforcement be safe and handle situations in a way that will result in life instead of death for all parties involved. https://facebook/photo.php?v=10154172666335323&comment_id=10154173207160323&offset=0&total_comments=3
