Built on a site provided by William Barningham, owner of one of the towns ironworks, North Road Methodist Church was opened in 1872 to replace an 1863 chapel in Denmark Street. In 1885 the North Road Church became the head of the newly-formed North Circuit in the town. In 1965 the church was demolished and the Northland Methodist Church was erected in its place, opening in January 1967. (George Flynn).
