CARBONX ROCKY MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE SERIES OPENS AT MAGIC VALLEY SPEEDWAY FOR THE “LONNIE LOWDER100” This Saturday night, May 10th begins the 11th season of the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series. The series unveils its opener on the 1/3 mile track at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, ID. By the looks of the competitors committed to this race it will be the largest opener in several seasons..some of the faces you will see are a real mix of veteranS vs young guns. Some veterans returning include past champion Bruce Quale from the Magic Valley. Bruce has his eye on the target this year as he would love to bring home a second championship. Also committed to a full assault is former RMCS champ Steve Jones of Meridian, ID. He has fought new car gremlins the last couple of seasons and hopes those days are distant memories. After a winter of change..let’s hope he see’s gains. Meridian veteran John Nesmith is also dialed on high kill with a brand new car..he took last year off building something he hopes will propel him to a crown with the RMCS. Cagey, long time competitor Jeff Hillock out of Cedar Hills, UT is under contract to run all the shows this year..he is always tough and hates to lose..makes for great eye candy for the fans. Former SRL Champion Jonathon Gomez will make this race as a test for the Century Motorsports and Marine Southern Idaho 222 scheduled early in June at Magic Valley Speedway. Expect to see Gomez put the number 22 up front during Saturday’s opener. Another veteran running the entire season is former Nascar Southwest Series Champ Eddy McKean. It’s been several seasons since Eddy has competed in the RMCS but you can be sure he knows his way around the track. Former longtime competitor and current Winged Sprint Car Champ Bryan Warf is scheduled to mount up the 66 Super Late owned by Eric Rhead of West Jordan, UT. Bryan is excited to get behind the wheel of a stock car and renew old friendships in the pit area. Joe Miller is a familiar name with the RMCS. Joe has been with the series since its inception. He is also a race track promoter at Millard County Raceway. Joe is making every effort to make Saturday night a night to remember. Veteran Nascar driver Brett Thompson will make his 2014 RMCS debut this Saturday night, racing out of Thompson Motorsports in Jerome, ID. After a disappointing DNF leading the Big 5 show at Meridian Speedway two weeks ago, Brett would like to redeem that night with a win at his home track. Las Vegas has been good to the RMCS through 10 seasons by providing us two great racers. Thane Alderman and his partner in crime, Jim Wulfenstein have always been top notch competitors. Thane has been an inspiration to many who compete in this series. His willingness to help and his on track demeanor has set the bar for all racers in this series. Returning after a year off is Spring Creek, NV resident Travis Monett. Travis carries a great attitude and a big smile everywhere he goes. He plans a full season with the series. Young hopeful Dylan Caldwell has run many RMCS races in the seat of Scott Walker’s hot rods…but now he is in a brand new car that belongs to him. He has worked hard this winter and with lots of support from family and friends he is very optimistic of his future. Jeff Wade is a Paul, ID native who took a year off and wants to re up his relationship with the RMCS. Magic Valley Speedway is home to this racer and he hopes that will give him a slight edge come this weekend. Whether you call him a young gun or veteran is up to you…but Meridian Speedway veteran Chris Fenton is another competitor that has seen some great runs in his young career with us. He made a run for rookie last year and suffered some end of the season blues which resulted in losing the Rookie trophy. New cars and more knowledge might propel this racer right up front. For the young guns the pace will be set by several attempting a stellar year behind the wheel…Probably the most boisterous and outgoing is Dennis Brodigan. He is fulfilling a childhood dream of running in the RMCS and this will be his first of hopefully many. Hannah Newhouse has done a lot in racing in a short period of time. The 17 year old Twin Falls native has ran everything from Go Carts to Nascar K&N West cars. She was the recipient of the A-1 Heating and Air Conditioning Rookie of the Year award in the RMCS in 2013. Look for her to be a factor this year. Twin Falls own Kris McKean is no stranger to competition. With championships at Magic Valley Speedway he is looking forward to his first season in a traveling series. Should be a good field of rookies with Kris being a big part of it.. Next to swing a bat at the rookie honors hails from Salt Lake City. This young man grew up on motorcycles and is now trying to make a mark in the Super Late Model division. Monty Mandros is the new face of racing…weird hat and all..He will make his first RMCS start this Saturday night. Last year’s Champion Trevor Cristiani has his Dad on the run..literally. Chasing much needed parts to put the race car back together. The “young gun” moniker fits him fine. The youngest driver to ever win the crown in the RMCS, Trevor has plans to run several events this season including some Legend racing around the region. They will make every effort to be at Magic Valley Speedway come Saturday night. Las Vegas is lending us another racer for the weekend. Veteran Mark Allison has competed once before at Meridian Speedway and has been trying to get back since then. This is the weekend we will see him make the drive. So make your way to the Magic Valley Speedway this Saturday night and help us celebrate 11 seasons of great Late Model racing. We will also celebrate Century Motorsports and Marine returning to us for 2014. They are a great addition to our marketing partners that drive this series. Gates open for RMCS at Noon and qualifying is at 6:30 PM. See you at the Races.
