CAST ASIDE EVERY HINDRANCE Mark 10:49-50, “So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, ‘Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.’ And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.” Blind Bartimaeus realized that he could not face two directions – his past and his future - at the same time. Weighing up his options, he discovered that where he was going was better than where he was coming from and abandoned his old way to follow Jesus, the Owner of his future. We follow Jesus Christ when our will is obedient to God’s will. In his moment of regeneration and renewal, Bartimaeus made a heart decision and cast aside everything that could hinder his movement towards Jesus. What was holding him back from coming to Jesus was his sinful nature, his old self and self-righteousness. Many in the church seem to miss the mark because they have not made that same decision from the heart. That is why they seem to lose focus and balance when answers to their prayers do not seem forthcoming. To make a heart decision to follow Jesus, you must cast aside your old self, sinful nature and self-righteousness. Faith is our movement towards Jesus. Man cannot discover new oceans unless he first loses sight of the shore. Jesus will not do for you what you must do for yourself. So, by faith, let go of your old nature as blind Bartimaeus did and embrace Jesus Christ.
