CONGRATULATIONS, ALLYSSA BRADFORD of Wyoming East High School!!!!!! Allyssa is the recipient of the Lucy Mae Hale Memorial Scholarship. Lucy Mae Hale Memorial Scholarship The Lucy Mae Hale Memorial Scholarship fund was created in 2012 in memory of Lucy Hale. Lucy was born in Mercer County, WV on November 3, 1923 and was the wife of the late Fount William Hale. Mr. and Mrs. Hale resided in Mullens where they raised ten children, all of which attended schools in Wyoming County. The eighth grade was the extent of Mrs. Hale’s formal educated, but she expanded her knowledge and gained wisdom through books. She was an avid reader and enjoyed conversing with experts in any given field in order to learn. She encouraged her children and 25 grandchildren to obtain degrees beyond high school. Following her advice, many became nurses, paramedics, laboratory technicians and doctors. The Lucy Mae Hale Scholarship Fund was founded by her grandson, Dr. Brad Lane, and a family friend, Dr. Chris Hansen, to honor Mrs. Hale’s commitment to furthering the education of Wyoming County students. The Lucy Mae Hale Memorial Scholarship is funded by Appalachian Eye Care of Princeton, WV.
