CRUK debunking the recent headlines about bad luck and cancer. The paper says there is a positive relationship between a greater number of stem cell divisions in a tissue and an increased likelihood of developing cancer. How that constitutes bad luck Im not sure. Hypothesis makes biological sense: more cell division = more DNA replication = greater likelihood of mistakes occurring in the code --> increased likelihood of cancer development. All the scientists did was find the statistics stack up and the mathematical relationship is real. Time for some experimentation to find out why that relationship is there and how it works in the different tissues biologically.
