Captain’s Irish Joy Saturday’s Harbour Bistro St Patrick’s Day Am Am at Ramsey Golf Club was the perfect day for Sean Cunningham and his team who were clear winners with 98 points. With a full turn-out for the afternoon’s shot gun start and the course much drier than in previous months there was some excellent scoring with 90 points not being enough to get in contention. Despite Simon Callow’s visit to the 6th tee off the first, Tim Pressley, Barry Teare and Ian Liddle managed 3rd place with 93 points. With a hint of a domestic tussle between Gill and Sean Cunningham, Gill’s team with Trevor Boyles, Frank Doherty and Stu Campbell posted 94 and came into the clubhouse fully confident that the main prize was theirs. Birdies on the 4th and 11th from Peter Collister and on the 2nd from Ray McElhinney together with another on the 18th from Paul Routledge saw Sean’s team take this competition yet again. With numerous podium finishes and being previous winners this really is their favourite day out. Still celebrating a hole in one on the 18th from the previous day Paul Routledge thanked Ken and Pat Devaney for their sponsorship and in his usual style joked “the course was good out there, but we were better!” With the competition in the bag and the 6 Nations rugby concluding in a glorious win for the Irish it was a hearty meal of Irish stew and a few pints of Guinness that set the night off. Brendan McLaughlin and Steve White provided a musical Irish flavour for the rest of the evening and no doubt there will be some sore heads on Sunday morning. The next competitions are the Ladies Tuesday medal and the Richdale Cup for the men next Sunday. Get your entries in now.
