Certainly not a controversial choice, but theres a reason why THE EXORCIST (directed by William Friedkin) is maybe my favorite scary movie ever, and why I watch it at least once every October. I love its believable characters and the fact that it takes its time to get to the supernatural stuff. That makes it all the more scary, because it feels like this is actually happening to a family that you know. Wish more movies did that. It does such a great job of conjuring a specific kind of fear: the fear of a parent who has to face the fact that she cant protect her daughter against something so evil. Probably everyone has seen this movie. But if you havent, do yourself a favor and seek it out this Halloween.
