Chargers Working On Long-Term Deal For Donald Butler by Ernie Padaon The San Diego Chargers and Donald Butler are working on a deal to keep the middle linebacker in town for a few more years. Butler is going to be a free agent at the end of the year and will be a hot commodity for teams around the league. He is one of the more popular players on the team and is a leader on defense. He is respected by his teammates and should be around the team in the future to help build up the defense. One of AJ Smith’s problems was his ability to keep core players around. Butler should be considered one of the players to help build on this defense. We need a thumper on the defensive side of the football. We need a guy that is going to punch the other team in the mouth. Butler is our guy. We don’t need to see him wearing another team’s jersey in the future. Number 56 should be in the Chargers jersey for a few more years at the very least. This will be the first test to see how Tom Telesco deals with his own players. We have some good young talent on this roster and he will have to find a way to keep them wearing the blue and gold.
