Christmas approaches and one can hear Christmas songs everywhere. However, I am sure, not everybody outside Ukraine knows that one of the most famous Christmas carols - Carol of the Bells is originally Ukrainian folk song, which was adapted by Mykola Leontovych (1877 - 1921) - Ukrainian composer and music teacher, who is well known for his arrangements of folk music. This carol is called Shchedryk in Ukrainian and later it was adapted as an English Christmas Carol. I heard this song many times over the last week - in different American cities performed in different variations. Every time I hear it I smile, because it reminds me my Homeland.
