#ChristopherNolans films elicit extreme responses: you either love them or hate them. Heres a balanced and must-read analysis of #Interstellar by a film enthusiast named Tanmay Shukla. Interstellar(2014) : An Experience Of Cosmic Philosophy Christopher Nolan, one of the most actively discussed directors in world cinema today. There were followers of Welles, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Woody, Coppola but none had more so than this modern filmmaker who is creating blockbusters one after the other. He hasnt tasted failure yet even though hes been around for more than a decade. Interstellar, quite an anticipated film, this latest science-fiction film set in dystopian near future has received heavenly appraisal from the younger audience, to an extent calling it 2001 of their time, while critics have either praised it immensely or called it a huge failure. I liked it, I even loved it, but I wanted to love it even more. I was expecting it to be great, something like Ive never seen on the big screen before, and rightly so, my assumptions were largely proved to be correct and I walked out of the theater in astonishment, in confusion, I just had an experience, the best ever, onscreen. What can I say, Nolan is a director who has made me think a lot with films like Insomnia and Memento on one hand, latter being a film which is a mind-altering experience for me, on the other, The Dark Knight is a movie which Ill never forget, which is one of the best Ive seen, but never troubled my psyche. Ill add Interstellar to this list. Interstellar is a very smart thought, many conflicting visions coalesced into one. A dream of astrophysicists, a possibility of modern science, most of all, a fable of love and its implication in the cosmos, It is an exemplary model of modern philosophy, woven in an equation, an equation of our existence, of our place in the stars, of our place in the dirt. An imperfect film, I wish it was better, so I could love it even more. I look at the night sky and I wonder what its like to be there. Interstellar did it for me, it took me there and left me, alone, in the darkness, in the hostility, with that terrifying sounds and the uncanny lights. Interstellar was impressive till the first half. It went wrong for me when it tried to be too many different theories and subplots at once which made a mockery of such a fine theme. For example, traveling through a wormhole and exploring other life possibilities is one thing, and crossing the event horizon and coming out of singularity into another dimension is another. I admit this is all linked, but are we certain about this? Theres more to question, but Ill go ahead admitting this is a science fiction movie which tried and somewhat succeeded in getting the facts right. The beautiful yet factual world they created was an enormous leap to what were expecting but this couldnt save the end which could have been anything but this. The screenplay could have been simplified to an extent making it a much more involving ride for everyone than just being visually spectacular. Also, Nolan did try to make the story as straightforward as it could be. A bit of jigsaw storytelling would have made it more mysterious and unpredictable, like the theme itself. The music and the editing were excellent apart from visual effects which made it much more realistic, unsettling and terrific. The pace was just about right and acting was very good in some instances. Anne Hathaway was gorgeous and did her part very well. I felt she was given less screen time and Matthew McConaughey is a versatile actor as well all know but this time he lacked a bit of his appeal due to the subject matter. Gravity had breathtaking visuals, Interstellar managed to surpass it I dont know how, kudos to the VFX team. Interstellar might not be the best ever sci-fi, but surely this will inspire many to make more celestial and space exploration themed movies in future. A cosmic experience of a lifetime, I havent had an opportunity to see 2001: A Space Odyssey in theater; but going to the theatre to watch Interstellar is surely a no-brainer. 8/10! imdb/title/tt0816692/
