Church Family, Im SO THANKFUL tonight, Ruth and I are coming up on our 32 Wedding Anniversary this week and dated for 5 years before that. I pray, that God will give us more great times together. As Im thankful God give me this message to share.Yes, originally Thanksgiving was a religious holiday. Almost 400 years ago, the Pilgrims, some of the first settlers from Europe, set aside a special day to remember Gods goodness and to thank Him for taking care of them. Thanksgiving should still be a time of thanking God for all His blessings to us, both as individuals and as a nation. Admittedly, many people have lost sight of this and treat it as only a secular holiday—but when we do, we miss its true meaning. I truely believe, this is a time for families an shopping is taking the people away from the time together.Thanksgiving also should remind us that we are dependent on God for everything—our freedoms, our resources, our families, everything. As the Bible says, Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand (1 Chronicles 29:14). This is one reason the Bible says, Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good (Psalm 136:1). Always remember to put FAITH back into our Thanksgiving tradition. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, and with THANKSGIVING, let your requests be made known to God. Phil 4:6 I pray that all our families will pause on this Thanksgiving Day to thank God for His gifts not just the ones we are shopping for. Most of all, thank Him for the greatest gift of all—the gift of His Son Jesus, who came to give us the gift of eternal life through faith in Him. If you havent already done so, Ask Him to come into your life today. People in the Bible actually celebrated times of thanksgiving several times each year (particularly in the Old Testament). These included times of worship as well as feasting, and were meant to remind them of Gods goodness and faithfulness. These took place at set times each year -- at the beginning of the harvest, for example. They knew they were dependent on God for everything, and no matter how hard they worked, only God could provide them with a bountiful harvest. Giving thanks was also part of other festivals that reminded them of Gods goodness in the past, such as the Passover feast (which commemorated their deliverance from slavery). And this is what Thanksgiving should be for us -- thanking God for His blessings, both in the past and in the present. As you gather with your family or friends this Thanksgiving (or even if youre alone), pause to thank God for His blessings to you. Remember: He has given you everything you have. The Bible says, Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father (James 1:17). Let the Psalmists words be your guide: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever (Psalm 106:1). Even if youre going through hard times, thank God for His presence with you. Most of all, thank Him for Jesus Christ, who gave His life so you could have the greatest gift of all -- the gift of eternal life. Have you accepted that gift? If not, make this a day of true thanksgiving by opening your heart and life to Christ. Blessings, because we have alot to be thankful for Search your heart tonight and think on these things, then bow your head and pray thanking Him for the gifts in your life. Thanks comes from ones heart. In Christ, MTim
