Congradulations to Paul Murray on his victory in the Brendan Walsh - TopicsExpress

Congradulations to Paul Murray on his victory in the Brendan Walsh Memorial Cup Final last night. He was pushed all the way by the brilliant Glen Dunne who added a 102 & 117 checkout to his already impressive 158 finish earlier in the competition but it wasnt enough to stop last years Champ from becoming the first man to retain the coveted trophy and he is a worthy winner of what has been an exceptional tournament again this year. I dont think anyone could argue Paul deserved hs victory, although he was full of praise for Glen and considered himself fortunate to win, and his celebration just showed how much it means to come through a field of players including semi finalists of the calibre of Colin Gratten and Eddie Dunne. Congrats also to Niall Brady who came out on top in the Shield Final against his good friend Gary Dunne after semi final victories over Bren Moran and Mark Connelly, respectively. Again, to say the standard was high is a huge understatement with Brady hitting a 180 along the way to a hard fought victory and Dunne coming back from two legs down to make sure any victory for his opponent would have to be hard earned. To have a Shield Final contested by a 19 and 18 year old is fantastic and a great indication that the Darts scene in Monasterevin is flourishing again from the young to the, as John Dunne put it not so young, and nothing would have pleased Brendan more than to see young players, not least Gary, coming through. On behalf of all the Staff at Carmodys we would just like to congradulate all 50+ participants for a Fantastic Tournament, played to an amazing standard and a spirit worthy of the man in whos memory the Tournament is named, it is an honour and a pleasure to be a part of and finally a big thank you to the Walsh family who were in attendance last night especially May and Dom who presented all our finalists and John Dunne and Mark Shields, among others, for organising such a great event. Again Congrats to Paul, an amazing achievement to win back to back titles, something we may not see again with the quality in the field, but whos to say he wont make it three-in-row in 2015?
