Corinne WilliamsTabatha Collins If you or your friends are interested in this program, would you share please!! On 21st, 22nd,28th December, Were going to hold Shurijo Wakamizu Kenjo Ekiden. This event is like an Ekiden, but not a race. We deliver a pot of water from Hedo(yes, the north point of Okinawa island) to Shuri Castle as a relay form in this three days. And we need more runner (or you can walk fast) on 22nd and 28th. In Ryukyu Kingdom, people draw some water every end of the year from Hedo Ucker River as known as sacred water point near by Asumui Utaki as the creation of Ryukyu, and deliver the water to Shuri Castle by special kind of relay. There were some arterial roads to deliver Kings order to the country side of this Island in Kingdom era。There was a deliver system Shuku tsugi like an Ekiden. People relayed from one station(point) to the other station(point). This water presentation had been continued till 1943, after Ryukyu Kingdom came to an end. People had been delivering the sacred water to the Nakagusuku Udun( The Prince of Ryukyus house). The King and his family use this sacred water in the new years event to pray their long life. 1998, my friend Mr.Yamashiro restored this event. At the beginning, only some people joined him. He delivered the water from Hedo to Shuri Castle by only his familys relay. But it was too tough. From the next year, more people joined him and delivered the water by car.lol This event became bigger. Last year more than 150 people came to see it to Hedo. Now, some ladies in Ryukyu Kimono pray as priest, then draw water.It is really great atmosphere. This year, Mr.Yamashiro planned to restore the Shuku tsugiEkiden. We need more runners!! One section is almost 5 km. 21st December,We start at Hedo 9:00 a.m. on 21st and finish at 18：10 or something at Nago city hall. on the next day 22nd, start Nago city hall at 9:00 a.m. then finish at Kina Banju in Yomitan Village at 16：30 on the last day 28th, start Kina Banju in Yomitan Village at 9:00 a.m. finish at Shuri town hall near by Shuri Castle Park at 14:00 The entrance fee is free. But you have to come to the station point by your self. (The staff will drive the runnerｓ to their car after running) We can present only a T shirt for a runner.
