Counter extremism policies are an entirely unnatural phenomenon in the Muslim community. There is nothing normal about their existence. They are never initiated by the community, funded by the community nor sustained by the community. Read below of one such prominent example. It details the governments efforts to establish an Imams Reference Group (IRG), a body through which the government seeks to impose a singular compliant leadership over the Muslim community. The references below are based on an a telling email exchange between a government counter extremism representative and a member of the Muslim community. No other community would or should accept this level of government interference in its mots intimate affairs. Yet there is a pernicious two tier legal system when it comes to Muslims in this country. Have a read and shock yourselves. Muslims must question those who speak on their behalf. Are they party to such matters? Do they support such government initiatives, or worse still, are spear heading its implementation? Are their words and deeds truly independent or are they taking instruction from government? Will they openly and unequivocally condemn such blatant government interference in the Muslim community?
