Craig McRae’s VFL Player Review 4. Alan Didak McRae Says: Started the game a bit slowly and had only five possessions to half time but really turned on his work rate after half time and managed to get 27, so he had 21 disposals in the second half. It was his hard running that stood out, as did his forward tackles and leadership which we were really pleased with. He really looked after the younger players. Statistics: 13 kicks, 2 marks, 14 handballs, 27 possessions, 4 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s 7. Andrew Krakouer McRae Says: Was similar to ‘Dids’ in having less of an impact in the first half but in the last quarter he had 14 disposals, 17 of which were contested. He’s playing real, tough, head-over-the-footy stuff and was a really solid contributor. He almost got us over the line singlehandedly. Statistics: 9 kicks, 1 mark, 19 handballs, 28 possessions, 5 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s 9. Marty Clarke McRae Says: Continues to perform well without being outstanding. It was a pretty solid game for Marty who is playing his role well. Twenty possessions is probably indicative of that. Statistics: 12 kicks, 5 marks, 10 handballs, 22 possessions, 4 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50 21. Quinten Lynch McRae Says: Lynchy was forced into the ruck early in the first quarter and played a similar game to what he did against Carlton earlier in the year. He had 27 disposals, 20 of which were contested, plus 15 clearances, seven inside 50s and five rebound 50s which an above average game. He kicked one goal and one behind and his hands look really strong but his impact was made more so around the ground. Statistics: 17 kicks, 6 marks, 10 handballs, 27 possessions, 7 inside 50s, 5 rebound 50s, 24 hitouts 29. Tim Broomhead McRae Says: Tim continues to play good, solid VFL footy but we’re looking for him to play AFL footy at VFL level. That’s his challenge. He did that earlier this year. He’s not playing poorly but we’re looking to take his game to another level. He can do that with his work rate and impacting more on the contest. He kicked one goal and two behinds and overall is playing some good, solid footy. Statistics: 13 kicks, 5 marks, 7 handballs, 20 possessions, 2 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s 31. Jackson Ramsay McRae Says: Jackson is another one who played a solid game – it was the story of the day: lots of good contributors without being outstanding. He continues to use his legs with ball in hand. His kicking disposal was poor on the day but it’s an area he’ll improve on. Statistics: 7 kicks, 3 marks, 3 handballs, 10 possessions, 2 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s 33. Jackson Paine McRae Says: ‘Painey’ is playing his role well and seems to be close to being able to break a game open but in the last couple of weeks he has played on good defenders and had his moments but is another who is not quite playing AFL footy at VFL level which is what we are looking for him to do. He is not playing poorly but we are looking for a little bit more in all parts of his game. Statistics: 7 kicks, 2 marks, 6 handballs, 13 possessions, 0 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s 37. Kyle Martin McRae Says: Heavily tagged by James Magner who is a quality player. Kyle fought his way through that in some parts but didn’t impact the game. It’s going to be a regular thing for him as he is an elite player at VFL level. A pleasing thing was that he laid eight tackles but it’s something he’s going to have to learn to deal with. It’s probably a lesson learned, as it will happen again in the future. Statistics: 8 kicks, 2 marks, 4 handballs, 12 possessions, 4 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s 38. Peter Yagmoor McRae Says: ‘Yags’ continues to be really solid defensively. He’s become really reliable playing down back and he’s rarely beaten in one-on-one contests. It’s a by-product of all the work he has put in during the week. Statistics: 8 kicks, 2 marks, 5 handballs, 13 possessions, 2 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s 43. Adam Oxley McRae Says: ‘Ox’ was another one who was in and out of the game. He had 16 disposals which was a good, average game. Statistics: 13 kicks, 5 marks, 2 handballs, 15 possessions, 1 inside 50, 6 rebound 50s 44. Corey Gault McRae Says: Corey had the big task playing on Jesse Hogan who had a massive influence on the game. It’s the first week he’s gone down back after spending the last six mainly as a forward. It was a disappointing game for Corey against a really high quality young player on the rise. Statistics: 5 kicks, 3 marks, 4 handballs, 9 possessions, 0 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s 48. Caolan Mooney McRae Says: Received a heavy knock to the thigh early in the game and his movement was restricted. His nine disposals and five tackles were an outcome of that. He had minimal impact but he did kick a great goal early, which we’ve come to expect from him at VFL level with Caolan. Statistics: 4 kicks, 0 marks, 5 handballs, 9 possessions, 2 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s 52. Lachlan Wallace McRae Says: Reasonably quiet. Played down back for the whole game and kept his opponent in check which was pleasing. Statistics: 5 kicks, 4 marks, 2 handballs, 7 possessions, 1 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50s 53. Jack Hellier Lockyer Says: With 18 disposals he was one of those guys that fought it out in the midfield head-to-head with theirs. He had several contested possessions which is something we’ve come to expect. He was not as influential around the clearances but his nine tackles are something that we’ve come to expect. Statistics: 15 kicks, 3 marks, 3 handballs, 18 possessions, 4 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s 55. Matthew Boland McRae Says: Looked really good, fit and well in his first game back for a while after a hamstring injury. He is in good form at local level which showed with his eight marks and he looked dangerous on the lead. He ended up kicking three goals plus laying four tackles which was pleasing as well. Statistics: 9 kicks, 8 marks, 1 handball, 10 possessions, 0 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s 57. Tim Allan McRae Says: Went down back in the second half and had the job on Hogan who was out of control at that stage. Tim stood up and certainly gave us something when he went back there which is something he wasn’t able to do the previous week so that was really pleasing. Statistics: 2 kicks, 5 marks, 10 handballs, 12 possessions, 0 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s 58. Ben Moloney McRae Says: Returned from injury but unfortunately he reinjured his leg again. He got nine possessions in a quarter and a half and his influence on the game will be missed. Statistics: 4 kicks, 0 marks, 5 handballs, 9 possessions, 0 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s 61. Nick Gray McRae Says: Continues to be one of our reliable role players. He was leading the team defensively at half time and is dependable with every job we give him. Statistics: 4 kicks, 2 marks, 8 handballs, 12 possessions, 2 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s 63. Jordan Collopy McRae Says: Another who received a heavy knock which restricted his game. He ended up only playing less than a half and we missed his speed and intensity around the contest as a forward when he went down. Statistics: 4 kicks, 3 marks, 2 handballs, 6 possessions, 1 inside 50, 0 rebound 50s 68. Billy Barden McRae Says: Billy started down back and was instrumental in us winning a lot of the ball and then rebounding early in the game. Was thrown around a little bit but is another who was a solid contributor. Statistics: 7 kicks, 2 marks, 4 handballs, 11 possessions, 1 inside 50, 1 rebound 50 69. Brendan Rinaldi McRae Says: Hurt himself early in the game after getting a heavy knock so he played only limited game time after quarter time, which forced Lynch into the ruck. Statistics: 1 kick, 1 mark, 3 handballs, 4 possessions, 0 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s, 6 hitouts 71. Jackson Heagney-Steart McRae Says: He’s been forced to play on some of the most dangerous defenders going back on the last line in recent weeks. He’s had his moments where he has stood up for us and moments when he’s been challenged but at his best he’s a very valuable member of our team. He’s been showing that in patches. Statistics: 5 kicks, 3 marks, 5 handballs, 10 possessions, 0 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s 72. Matthew Brett McRae Says: A young 23rd player from the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup. He had his moments and there was a period in the game where he kicked a great goal and looked very capable of playing at this level. He attacked the footy hard which tread the line of fair and legal and forced bit of a scrimmage from it but he certainly showed that he is capable of playing VFL footy. Statistics: 3 kicks, 1 mark, 1 handball, 1 inside 50, 0 rebound 50s
