[Cyclone Alert@HKTCWC] Cyclone Watch is now in orce. Which means that a tropical cyclone is centering within 1200 kilometers from Hong Kong and may affect us within the coming 72 hours. At 9AM, Tropical Storm Mangkhut was centered about 740 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong (near 17.8N 109.0E) and its expected to move northwest at about 22 kilometers per hour across the South China Sea, in the general direction of northern Vietnam, skirting the southwestern coast of Hainan Island. Mangkhut has intensified a bit at night, having a maximum mean wind of 75km/h near its center. Mangkhut is expected to make a landfall at northern Vietnam tonight, Mangkhut will greatly weaken at that time. Mangkhut is not expected to have a high influence on local weather. However, Mangkhut bring us swells. Therefore, you are advised to pay attention to this if any water sports was planned. According to the lastest forecast, Mangkhut will keep a minimum distance about 700 kilometers from us. The chance of issuing higher signal is low unless Mangkhut is bringing strong wind to highlands and offshore. We may consider cancelling all warnings for Mangkhut after its landfall.
