D.C. Poets to be Honored at “A Splendid Wake” September 25, 6:30-8:00 P.M. Gelman Library, George Washington University Poets from across the greater D.C. area are collaborating to document and preserve the remarkable literary history of Washington poetry from 1900 to the present. Articles about poets, movements, publications, readings, sponsoring institutions, recordings and broadcasts provide a picture of the diverse and unique life of poetry that evolved over more than a century in and around the nation’s capital. All are welcome to “A Splendid Wake” at George Washington University, Gelman Library, Suite 702, 2130 H Street, N.W. Washington, D.C. on September 25 from 6:30-8:00 P.M. This public event will launch a digital collection to be housed at GWU. The Wiki will be an ongoing effort to invite the community to take an active part in contributing knowledge of the history of poetry in the D.C. area and its continuance into the future. Speakers at the event include D.C. Poet Laureate Dolores Kendrick, Jennifer King, E. Ethelbert Miller, Christopher Sten, Brian Gilmore, Kim Roberts, Grace Cavalieri, Karren Alenier, Rick Peabody, Merrill Leffler, Luis Alberto Ambroggio, Sarah Browning, Terence Winch and Teri Cross Davis.
