DAMÓS MISSION STATEMENT Pt. 1 What is DaMos? you ask DaMós is many things (more on that as we go along )But first and foremost it is a new and more conceptual , layered , meta approach of interacting with art and music . Ive been writing , recording and performing original music of mine for over 30 years now and having largely abandoned the idea altogether that music , in general , is even half as interesting and relevant as I once thought it to be , as an artform , Ive only in the last month or so given back into the idea of examining the ideas and potential new relationship that could be established with it as a reimagined and repurposed way to deliver ideas . Personally I think the old model is dead but still attempting to cling to the skeletal vestigial remains of what used to be a working model that no longer does , or even can work in the internet age . So what weve been left with is an ever growing dependency and a much greater emphasis on engaging with music with our eyes rather than our ears .... Which is weird when you think about it . An unintended consequence of the modern era , thats all .. For in which I say ok then , so the actual music itself has been forced to sit in the backseat of cultural relevance so the much more important visual stimulus can ride shotgun . Fine , I get it .....things change and people are shallow and would typically rather avoid any sort of accidental subconscious encounter with the insight and introspection that just listening to music can tend to and used to provide . I dont feel its anyones fault , the medium just adapted and evolved , as things do ..... Well so shall I then I suppose .... Maybe Its part of the job of being an artist ..... Evolving with a changing culture while pointing out ideas that have become forgotten victims of that same change as well as using your craft to keep the ball moving forward as well . I think when I completely lost interest in music was when most everyone in my surrounding area started playing pretty much only country , folksy blues music. Its gross ..... If youre all gonna play the same damn song , At least have the honesty and common decency to not pretend your version of the obligatory song about whiskey is any better or even any different than all the others because you do yours while wearing the RED skinny jeans . Sure , I think what things used to be like and more importantly , what things used to feel like are integral parts of the human cultural experience and should be recognized as so but it see to me that today we have traded the idea of evolving together culturally for the notion of just getting prettier people to tell the same old stories and calling that progress ...... We here at DaMós find that to be a flawed model and feel responsible to point it out . We wish to celebrate , deliver , and expound on the more raw , unpolished , unfinished and uglier side of the artform by delivering you content that contradicts the current model in as many ways possible . We feel thats where the real beauty lies . To be continued....
