DETRITUS TO ONE-OFF LAMPSHADE A friend had a garage sale of sorts to rid themselves of detritus while helping youth organizations raise some funds. She asked me to help in selling some things but found myself picking items that do not have anything to do with the other items on the floor--all that I could afford anyway (and most are unpaid to this day). Anyway, here is the second project I have completed from that pick. Number of steps corresponds to photos: 1. Saw this lampshade base (no shade); 2. Spotted this sculptural frosted glass from a ceiling/hanging lamp under a table and thought i could marry the two together. (but there would be challenges doing this, right? there lies the challenge and the pleasure.) 3. electrical no longer working; 4. the iron that holds the original shade wont fit inside the glass; 5. glass needs some cleaning (bird or lizard poo and others); 6. peeled off the paper base cover to investigate how the wiring could be replaced; 7. (sorry for the wrong chrono) iron that holds shade needs to be extended so it can hold the quite heavy glass securely and needs to be slimmer so it can go inside the glass; 8. welder going to work; 9. my mothers iron plant box donated a piece of iron (dont tell her) to make shade holder taller; 10. the lampshade base got disassembled so it can be cleaned and rewired; 11. after rewiring, new bulb receptacle attached; 12. new, taller and slimmer iron shade holder attached; 13. problem: how to secure the heavy repurposed glass shade firmly?; 14. answer: repurpose a metal bottle cap (chose a gold colored one); 15. after some hammering and puncturing, it works! (have to replace it with a more rounded one later, of course. more practice!); 16. dog who did not want to leave me alone models the final product; 17. placed on top of the earlier round marble top project beside the bed; 18. bought a 3-watt LED bulb that provides enough light but still suggests the texture and form of the repurposed glass shade; 19. I would like to thank the judges for awarding me this wonderful trophy. God bless po.
