DLSU BRACES FOR A TOUGH BATTLE AGAINST CONFIDENT UP Hindi mo na pwedeng sabihing “OK, UP lang yan,” dati yun siguro pero ngayon hindi na -- De La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus De La Salle University coach Ramil De Jesus is wary of University of the Philippines Lady Maroons level of play this season. “Hindi mo na pwedeng sabihing “OK, UP lang yan,” dati yun siguro pero ngayon hindi na,” he said. The Lady Spikers hope to start a winning run but are bracing for a tough fight against a very confident Lady Maroons in their second round of eliminations rematch Sunday in the 77th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan. La Salle occupies the solo second place and are aiming to improve their 7-1 record against the Lady Maroons, who are on a high morale after scoring consecutive victories, at the 2:00 p.m. match. After losing their last game in the first round at the hands of archrival and defending champion Ateneo De Manila Lady Eagles, La Salle returned to the win column with their 25-17, 27-29, 25-14, 25-9, victory over the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws five days ago. Ara Galang starred for the Lady Spikers in the last game with 17 points, all but one coming from kills, while Cyd Demecillo got 13 markers. Mika Reyes and Kim Fajardo had 10 points each for La Salle, just half a game behind the Lady Eagles (7-0). De Jesus expects that the complexion of the game will be different from their 25-16, 25-20, 25-21, first round win last December 6 even if UP’s main offensive force is a woman down after Kathy Bersola’s season ended early with a left knee (ACL) injury. “Kailangang paghandaan talaga sila,” he said. The Lady Maroons were impressive in their first game without Bersola with a quick dismantling of the University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-17, 25-13, 25-21, last Wednesday. Nicole Tiamzon, Angeli Araneta and Marian Buitre, groomed by UP coach Jerry Yee as replacement for Bersola, led the Lady Maroons collect their fourth win in eight outings surpassing their last years total. “Kahit kulang-kulang kami (sa tao) lalaban pa rin kami and ipapakita pa rin namin ang kaya naming ibigay,” Yee said. The game will air live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action, BALLS SkyCable HD 167, uaaplivestream.uaapsports.tv and sports.abs-cbn/livestream with a same day replay at 8 p.m. on BALLS SkyCable channel 34/ Destiny Cable channel 36. sports.abs-cbn/volleyball/news/dlsu-braces-tough-battle-against-confident [panch]
