Proverbs 20:6-7 (AMP): 6 Many a man proclaims his own loving-kindness and goodness, but a faithful man who can find? 7 The righteous man walks in his integrity; blessed -- happy, fortunate (enviable) -- are his children after him. Thought for the Day Verse 6 - Since we all want others to respect and like us, we generally present ourselves in the best light, letting our good deeds be known. No one likes to mention their failures. Even so, God knows everything about us. When we come to Him, the first thing we must do is to confess our sins and failures to Him so that He can forgive us and help us to overcome them. This is humbling, but it allows the Holy Spirit to lift us from the state we are in. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up (James 4:10). If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We will never be truly faithful until we first come to the One who is always faithful. By faith in the Lord Jesus, we are made righteous and enabled to do what is right and good. As Gods children, we should not broadcast our good deeds but make known the One enabling us to do them. Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips (Proverbs 27:2). Jesus Himself said there was no good thing in Him, but His goodness came from the Father who sent Him. Matthew 19:16-17 says, And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. John 5:19 also says, Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. If Jesus, who was without sin, had to rely on the Father and the Holy Spirit to do good, how much more must we? Paul wrote to the Romans, For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not (Romans 7:18). God promises to enable us to desire and accomplish His will in Philippians 2:13: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Verse 7 - To walk in righteousness, we must walk in the Spirit, allowing Christ to live His life in us and letting the world see that we are guided by His Word. Matthew 5:16 says, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. God will enable us to keep His commandments and do the things that Jesus did. We will thus be an example to our children and leave them a spiritual inheritance. We may also be the only Bible that unbelievers will read. Our deeds should inspire others to know God better. The greatest thing we can do for our children, or anyone else, is to bring them to the knowledge of God. Prayer Devotional for the Day Dear heavenly Father, help me to be the kind of witness I should be to the world. May others see Christ in me and the deeds I do. Forgive me when I get in the flesh and do things that I should not do. Help me to overcome my flesh and truly bring glory to You by the way I live. Fill me with the Spirit so that I can express Your love to all I come in contact with. Help me to be faithful and obedient to Your Words. Thank you for Your mercy and grace. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
