Dated: 7 July 2013 The Coalition of Afghan Civil Society Organisations United Kingdom To The Government of United States of America Demonstration in support of an Afghan-led, inclusive and transparent peace process for Afghanistan The coalition of Afghan civil society organisations in the United Kingdom gathered for peaceful demonstration outside the US Embassy in London on Sunday the 7th of July to raise their concerns over the recent developments on peace talks with the Taliban. The coalition expressed their profound concerns over the possible backtracking of the hard-won gains in all aspects of Afghanistan’s development over the last decade and emphasized on the importance of a meaningful Afghan led, owned and transparent peace process with the Taliban. Noting the possibility that the talks with the Taliban could increase the prospect of peace in Afghanistan after nearly a decade of bloodshed in the country, the Coalition of Afghan civil society organisations passed a resolution in which it: Calls for an inclusive and transparent peace process for Afghanistan, which is owned by the Afghans themselves, and is led by their democratically elected Government. Urges that the Taliban and all other armed groups cut their ties with Al-Qaeda and denounce violence before any final and serious peace settlement. Stresses that the Constitution and territorial integrity of Afghanistan must not be compromised. Peace talks between relevant parties should safeguard the above. Stresses that peace talks should preserve the achievements of the Afghan people over the last decade, particularly those in the social, political and economic spheres. Urges that the peace talks guarantee human rights for all Afghan citizens, particularly those of women, children and religious minorities. Stresses that all armed groups involved in the conflict must with immediate effect declare for a ceasefire. Demands that the Taliban office in Doha be closed, with immediate effect and any peace talks should be held inside Afghanistan. Demands that the United States uses its international stature to put pressure on Pakistan to stop sponsoring terrorism.
