Day 1013. Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE JOHN ALBERT WALSH 52665. Born in January 1896, John was the fourth of five children and youngest son of Sam and Sarah Ann Walsh of 26 Moorfield Place, Idle, Bradford. A Tinner before the war, he enlisted in Eccleshill originally joining as 5219 in the Highland Light Infantry before being transferred to the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, 2nd Hull Pals. John was killed in action on 28th June 1918 during the attack on German positions around the ruins of La Becque farm as the Allies attempted to drive the enemy back over land they had taken during the Spring Offensive. He is buried in Aval Wood Military Cemetery; he was 22 years old.
